Calamba City is titled as the Cleanest Air in the Philippines and ranking 6th in Southeast Asia according to the 2023 World Air Quality Report by the Swiss air-monitoring company, IQAir .
In the report, Calamba City in Laguna ranked 6th in the entire Southeast Asia and 1st in the Philippines with an 8.2 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m³) average of PM2.5. Followed by Carmona City in Cavite at 9th place with 8.9 μg/m³ average PM2.5. And Balanga City in Bataan falls short at 11th place with 9.2 μg/m³ average PM2.5.
To measure the global air quality, the company uses PM 2.5 – any particle matter that falls under 2.5 micron or below in aerodynamic diameter – as an indicator in the study which was conducted in 7,812 cities spanning 134 countries. It is said that PM2.5 is one of six major air pollutants commonly used in the classification of air quality.
